XMPP Server Migration Announcement
Hello Macaws!
It's with a mix of excitement and anticipation that I bring you this important news. We are in the process of migrating to a substantially more powerful server that will enable us to explore new horizons in communications.
Server Location Update
For some of you, this might be less-than-ideal news as our new server is located in France. However, as someone who has been using it since its launch from various parts of Europe, Asia, and South America, I can confidently assure you that you'll likely not notice any significant difference in performance.
That said, I offer my sincere apologies if our North American server location was a primary factor in your decision to join us, and if this relocation presents a dealbreaker. Your understanding is greatly appreciated.
Weekend Migration Schedule
The second important part of this announcement is that I'm planning to move our XMPP server to the new infrastructure this weekend 24-25 of May, 2025. While everything should proceed smoothly, please be aware that some outages may occur during this period. I apologize in advance and promise to do everything possible to ensure a seamless transition.
One change you will definitely notice is a certificate update – please don't be alarmed when you see this, as it's an unavoidable part of the process.
Benefits of Our New Nest
This transition brings numerous advantages:
- Significantly improved connectivity
- Faster message processing
- Lower latency
- Enhanced security measures
- More robust backup systems to protect against potential disasters (which we've fortunately avoided so far)
- A solid foundation for future experiments and improvements
I'm also planning to increase rate limits and storage quotas. With some technical wizardry, I hope to potentially eliminate storage quotas entirely and dramatically increase maximum upload sizes.
I deeply appreciate your understanding during this transition and apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause. If you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.
Thank you for continuing to soar with us!
